What Is Liberalism?

Liberalism is a political ideology with some measure of complexity, which began to crystallize in the eighteenth century. One of the most important concepts in liberalism is that of human rights. According to this concept, all humans are entitled to certain basic rights, which are defined largely in relationship to fundamental liberal ideals. Among the mos important of these liberal ideals are individual liberty, equality and mildness, or humaneness, in legal punishment. On this view, existing laws and norms should be constantly reformed such that they better accords withliberal ideals.
