How to Create a Backstory for a Scripted Scene

When you're playing a fictional character, are you essentially trying to mirror someone who's not there? Do you have to sort of build the character in your mind and then step into that their shoes? Everything starts with the script. You might be thinking of some song from 10th grade when you asked a girl out and she said no. Every time you hear that song, it just puts you in that place where you were around 10 other kids who watched you get rejected by this person. And guess what? Playing that song before you do that scene is informing you in some way to go do the scene.
