The Rise and Fall of Pretty Woman
No one could have predicted that a romantic comedy released in March would become one of the most reliable money makers of the whole year. In July, the film was still playing on over a thousand screens nationwide. That same month, Pretty Woman crossed the $170 million mark and became the highest-grossing film ever released by Disney. Its domestic gross was about twice the final tally of the studio's massive hit The Little Mermaid.
