The Year of the Dwarf Planet

This is the big year to go visit the dwarf planets. We all know about the eight planets, but there's a third class of planet which is little. And we're going to those this year. What missions are going to head out into the outer rim of the solar system? Well, we've got one close in, which is called Ceres,. The largest object in the asteroid belt will be visited by NASA's Dawn spacecraft later this year. Then there is, for me, the absolute highlight of the year, which is the visit to Pluto. To see a planet that we hadn't seen before was totally new.
