The Life and Times of Taia

Taia's big moment came when the Wu-chang uprising happened on October 10, 1911. Taia took control of Yunnan Province and set up a military government there to replace the Qing. After Yan Shirkai had sung assassinated in 1913, Taia spoke out at once against Yan which landed him in hot water. He went on the lamb, escaped to Japan first and then after Yan dared to restore the monarchy and make himself emperor in December 1915,. Taia rushed back to Yunnan, raised an army and on Christmas day of that year he kicked off what we remember as the National Protection War. This air base also became the main international airport in Kunbing from 1923 to 2012
