There is work going on at NIH that looks as though there may be a cure for sickle cell anemia. "Took a long time to get here, but this is one of the most exciting things that's happening right now," he says. We are going to see sickle cell disease cured in the next five years, you say? I never would have dreamed it when I was working on this as a postdoc thinking, well, this will be a nice academic experience and maybe it'll teach you something about basic biology"
