'If feelings are the most fundamental aspect of consciousness, given that even a bacteria can move toward nutrients and away from noxious stimuli, how do we determine where consciousness actually begins? Because i wouldn't think that a bacteria is conscious. What a single soul organism does have is some primitive form of selfhood,' he says. 'That doesn't mean it's sentient selfhood but it means it is an antional creature.'
