Amy Mayer: Affirmative action is seen as an anti-nerritocratic policy in that it admits students to selective universities who wouldn't be admitted under a traditional academic preparation or capacity-oriented admissions scheme. The people of California have twice voted in very large majorities to deny Berkeley the ability to use affirmative action in admissions, so how do you explain that by the way given that California is such a liberal state pretty fascinating?
