Ida B Wells and Black Journalists
Lewis: Ida B Wells was a journalist and she was running the black paper from Memphis, Tennessee. And somebody that she knew was lynched. Three men actually were lynched, but she was very close with one of them. A white mob came after them and lynched them and accused them of basically accused them of starting this fight that then the white mob just finished or whatever. That was the story that was being told. Lewis: She realized that the stories that she'd heard from around the country about lynching couldn't possibly be true. So there was a degree to which this kind of narrative had even bought into it until she saw the carotanis.
