There was an opportunity to amend the legislation so that merely prohibited sex education for the youngest florida students. That amendment, which would have helped avoid much of the strife ore seeing right now, was supported by even critics of the law as it was passed. Senator denis baxley encouraged his fellow legislators to reject the bipartisan amendment and said he considered it "an unfriendly amendment from a very friendly person"
