The History of Travel - Thomas Cook
Thomas cook was a preacher in the midlands of england. As a devout baptist, he had an aversion to alcohol and was a strict porter of the temperance movement. In 18 forty one while waiting for a stage coach, he suddenly wondered if the educational benefits of travel could divert people's attention away from demon alcohol. The railway company saw the success cook was having and offered him an arrangement. If cook could round up groups willing to travel, the railway would pay him a commission. That was enough of an impetus to start the world's first travel agency called thomas cook. By 18 90, thomas cook an son travel had sold over three million tickets.
