I Love Chechnya. But I'm Not Sure What to Do With It
I love Chechnya. I had lots of good friends there. But it was frustrating just writing daily news because it was so complicated and there was so much happening that it was very difficult to get all the background you needed into an 800 word article. So after I left Reuters, I really felt like I had unfinished business writing about that part of the world. And then I I wanted to do lots and lots of travelling because part of the phenomenon of the history of southern Russia has been these repeated exoduses of people from that area.
