The Legacy of My Great-Grandmother Henrietta Lax
Henrietta Lax's story is an amazing tale of scientific discovery but it also illustrates the racial inequality built into research and health systems. Two years ago I was lucky enough to speak to her great-granddaughter and nurse Victoria Baptiste and Henrietta's grandson Alfred Lax Carter Jr about the way they see their great grandmother's legacy. When she passed away in 1951 my mom was only two years old she didn't know her mother favorite color or her favorite food did she like to dance or do she like to sing what kind of person she was. So when my mother explained all these things to me as my grandmother then she educated me on the terrific advancements that the healer cell has made
