We Are Creating the Culture of Distraction
In 2012, the average time spent on any screen before switching was down to 74 seconds. Research by Mark and others from 2016 to 2021 put it relatively consistently at just 47 seconds. The higher a person scores in eroticism and urgency tests, the shorter their attention span. It doesn't mean you can't change, but you'll have a harder time than others. Some people are innately predisposed towards self-regulation. For some, individual traits coalesce with context to create a perfect storm of distraction.
