The Goal of an Elective Induction of Labor at 39 Weeks

The goal of labor is indeed delivery, but the goal of an elective induction of labor is labor itself. Most consider a satisfactory trial anywhere from 18 to 24 hours. If there is no clear cervical progression and the maternal and fetal condition continue to look stable, then it's perfectly okay to stop the induction.
