The Argument for Protecting Extreme Speech
I find myself being put off by a lot of free speech arguments from the right and the left as basically pretextual special pleading for what they want in a specific context. I think that argument no longer really works because we live in a society now where everyone loves defending sort of, you know, extreme thing pornography and this kind of stuff. But everyone's got ideas about how to regulate political speech, which is the thing the First Amendment is primarily about protecting.
