Virginia Hall's Story
In February 1940, Virginia Hall joined the French ambulance corps. She was sent to Metz close to the heavily fortified Maginot line. Six weeks later, France signed an armistice with Germany. The country was split in two: the north was occupied by the Nazis. Despite resistance from the French armed forces, supported by two British divisions and Belgian troops, the Nazis soon swarmed into Northern France. As part of the cessation of hostilities, Hall was relieved of her duties. But she decided to travel to Britain where she hoped to find a way to join the war again.
