The History of the Holy Sepulchre
There's no doubt that the location of the Holy Sepulchre was outside of the city. And if you go into the Church of Redeemer today, number one, climb up the bell tower. Number two, then go downstairs into the basement and you see the excavations there. And this goes back to the Iron Age. It was a quarry up until probably at least the first century AD when the second wall was built. But another thing that we can talk about in terms of a quarry is when you remove stone, it's not only for the positive benefit of making buildings but could also create a moat.
