CHAPTER

Navigating Changes in Tech and Enhancing Data Analysis

This chapter explores the impact of a significant acquisition in the tech industry on the speaker's career. It further delves into data analysis techniques, debugging practices, and the tools that improve user experience and system performance.

And

so, yeah, we had my daughter. And then two days later, they were like, there's rumors about the Microsoft
Speaker 1
stuff. And then like three days after that, was like announced and then basically i went on leave give me a glimpse into my last day future of leave i had yeah one of the things that we're friday is github and microsoft close the acquisition and that monday was my first day back the one after that and i was like sorry they were maybe sending some methods and so that it just timing wise
Speaker 4
worked out like they asked me i was like i was totally planning they were back i was i had no intentions because you never know what's going to happen with deals more and more what we see is people want all of these sources of geometry things like that but yeah so
Speaker 1
we were 45 through 50 and um early acquired kind of like a strike team and then we all went our separate ways and worked on different things but i think it worked out well for both sides and so that's kind of like the very fast-forwarded version of it and then so if user loads a web page like kind of tie together all the server requests that happened, any errors that happened, any metrics
Speaker 4
that were collected. Right at the end of 2018. And what that allows on the back end, you don't just have to look at three different graphs and sort of line them up entirely. An hour-ish, I want to say, of their life unless they want to go. You can actually analyze and slice and dice the data and say, hey, what did this metric look like for people with this operating system? Yeah, I did. I piped it through before. I just had a gut feeling. I was like, add some mumbles and some ums to make it look real. That was in the prompt. Did it add any disks? That was accurate already. Number three, right? Three was correct. Yeah, it was not hallucinating, unfortunately. Debug real-world systems. So to set the premise of what I mean by foundation,
Speaker 2
you shared
Speaker 4
a post. Let's see about a week-ish. Let's see you get there tomorrow. Requiring Fireside. How will systems be different? But part of this post you mentioned, this thesis you have of requiring Rails application. Because you're a Rails developer. I think it kind of goes back to this debugability experience. When you are digging into an issue, you know, having sort of a richer data model that's, you know, your logs are structured, there's sort of this hierarchical structure that spans. And not only is it just the spans that are structured, they're tied to errors, they're tied to other things. So when you have the data model that's kind of interconnected, it opens up all different kinds of analysis that were just kind of either very manual before, kind of guessing that maybe this log was, you know, happened at the same time as this other thing, or were just impossible. We get excited not only about the new kinds of issues that we can detect with that interconnected data model, but also just for every issue that we do detect how easy it is to get to the bottom of it. I love it. Okay, so they mean it when they say code breaks, fix it faster with Century. More than 100,000 growing teams use Century

to find problems fast.
