The Importance of Essence and Existence
Everything, other than one unique instance is subject to essence and existence. Thomas says no because the difference which is added to the genus to multiply it into its species is outside of the genus. So there's no difference in the feature that could be used to specify the genus. Next, he says, a species can be multiplied into individuals. That's gone. The species human has realized that all of us are humans. We have a species humanity, and it is realized in this chunk of matter which came into existence on the 12th of April 1983.
