Somscara, Mental Impression
We're talking about somscara here, mental impression. Somscara suggests a kind of momentum in life that can carry over from one to the next. Those neurons do not survive death. Therefore, specific memories cannot survive death. If you had a spiritual momentum in a prior life, that momentum can carry you forward in a future life. That's what the second half of the verse says exactly. And there r so after being born in that pious and prosperous family, or after being reborn into a family of yogis, once again, yata te.
