His geo-heliocentric system was ultimately proved wrong. Is that a reason to applaud his attempt or to say he wasn't up to it? So, well, all of the systems that people were imagining in the 16th and 17th century were wrong. But with the telescope, there was new observational evidence against the Ptolemaic system against geocentrism. He also demonstrated acute awareness of the value of communicating with a wider community of mathematicians, philosophers, astronomers.
