The Internet Is Not a Telegraph
The internet is not a broadcast medium rather in terms of its structure and functions it's much more similar to the telegraph. A lot of the same sort of anxieties about dissenting opinions or false disinformation being disseminated came up again in recent years, says Julian Zelizer. The state will not act against these companies by trying to break them up or create public rivals that are operated at cost like the post office or make them public services they won't do any of those things if in return those companies allow the state special privileged access to data according to Zelizer.
