Bert was frozen stiff with no fire. He tried striking his lighter next to the damp pine straw and snowy twigs, but he couldn't get his fingers to work. The cold didn't seem to bother him so much anymore. Actually, he felt quite comfortable, he thought, before drifting off into a deep, deep sleep. Bert cracked open one eye and there, standing above him was Yukon Pete, grinning his gap-tooth grin from ear to ear.
