The Tango of Aushwitz

The tango became a popular genre in the ghettos and camps of natsy europe pre war. Tango melodies were often set to new lyrics reflect contemporary circumstances. There was music that was being created and played by the inmates for themselves, songs that would speak about their hope. The time arrived to europe in the 19 tens, mostly 19 twenties. It was perhaps seen as something exotic jews who lived in the cities. They didn't want to be seen as people from the villages with e old fashioned customs and traditions.
