There was a former child slavery that basically existed in the laundries and in the industrial schools. Girls were being made pregnant, often by older men, worked all hours in terrible conditions. The women in them had not been charged with any crime, they'd had no trial, and sent to these places because they were so-called fallen women. A formal apology was issued by the state in 2013, and a £50 million compensation fund was set up.
