The Origins of Zombies

George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead is considered to be the quintessential zombie movie. The creatures in his film were ghouls, a creature borrowed from Arabian folklore. According to mythology, ghouls are demons who eat the dead and usually found in graveyards. Some think that honor falls to the Odyssey, the epic Greek poem written by Homer nearly 3000 years ago. It might sound like fantasy to our modern sensibilities, but some people really did believe this could happen.
