A good company will benchmark you against the average salary for someone in your job externally as well as internally. A lot of companies don't do that, especially when I think about like banking consulting,. They're going to give you like a 2% annual raise every year and you're going to say thank you and stay on your merry way. Figure out if you're at the kind of company that benchmarks like he just described. 9 times out of 10, you'll make more money if you leave the company.
