The Effects of Group Animosity on Social Media
Steve's PhD is in social media polarization and misinformation. He found that the biggest predictor of virality was whether a tweet or a Facebook post mentioned the outgroup. A lot of people's political identities are driven by hate toward the out group rather than love toward the in group, he says.
