Do You Have an Eating Disorder or a Substance Use Disorder?

Behavior is sort of another perspective that we can take on a person's problems and ask how much of this problem or these set of problems that a patient is bringing to us are due to something the person is doing. Examples of this can be things like eating disorders where somebody you know restricts their food intake they're concerned about being overweight but then start having a stronger and stronger drive to do it which really limits their choice. Or with substance use disorder someone may you know use alcohol more and more for whatever reason because of their different biology or because of environmental circumstances. These behaviors can be maladaptive or they can be adaptive but understanding that cycle of what supports behaviors is really important.
