Can We Talk, Nor Can We Reason, but Can We Suffer?
i worry that the words we're using are too broad, like consciousness and suffering and sentients. At some point i'm almost like, well, if we insist that, like fish are conscious, i almost wonder if some forms of consciousness don't matter in that case. I do think that ultimately, sentience is a really valid basis for moral concern. You know, you can take it back as far as some one like jeremy bentham, who had his famous line at th questions, not, can they talk, nor can they reason, but can they suffer? And i think for a lot of us that's intuitive.
