The Skepticism of Status
status is a social construction in the sense that it's social. It involves concept of mutual recognition, for instance, and power and prestige. But there may be fundamental psychosocial things going on that are highly determinative of what people value. We don't know how malleable status is; we don't knowHow susceptible it is to cultural intervention. And the second piece of skepticism is just about the extent to which these changes can be institutionalized.
