The sins upon sins of jerusalem are everything from treating one's neighbor, the orphan, the widow unjustly to violating the sabbath. And so we ask for god's mercy, which is just absolutely incredible and beautiful, and it's ours. We're meant to be god's mailmen, not his editors.
