While searching for more Spring myths, I researched the story of Ostara, which is rooted in Germanic and Anglo-Saxon mythology. Her name is linked to Eostre, an early Anglo-Saxon goddess of fertility and spring, recorded by the Venerable Bede in the 8th century. While historical evidence of widespread worship is scarce, her legacy persisted in folk traditions that celebrated renewal, fertility, and the balance between light and dark.
The tale of Ostara and her hare spread across lands and generations. Though the old gods faded from memory for many, their echoes remained. The egg, once a sacred symbol of life and rebirth, became entwined with later traditions of springtime festivals. The hare, fleet-footed and mysterious, became the messenger of the season.
