The Power of Ordinary Streetscapes
In Ireland with people reading and the way they revere some of the authors in their own past. There's a young friend of mine who is 20's, Declan Tooie, just published his first novel. His parents are from an ordinary sort of background and they're perfectly happy that he's become an novelist. I think one of Joyce's great gifts of secret generations of writers is that the ordinary parts of the city can be the material for literature.
