The Fed is in one of the most difficult boxes that they have been in the last 40 years. If they raise rates too much they know they're going to derail the economy and do so in a pretty significant way. But at the same time if they lower rates because the economy starts to show that recessionary environment then all of a sudden inflation rears its ugly head again. That's exactly what happened to the Federal Reserve in the late 70s, early 80s.
