Coins of Loyalty and Power

This chapter examines the role of challenge coins in the late Roman Empire, particularly focusing on their connection to loyalty between emperors and military leaders. It explores the artistic and symbolic significance of these coins, as well as their use in propaganda during the reign of Maximian amidst the challenges posed by Carousius. Additionally, the chapter highlights the shifting dynamics of imperial power and the importance of public perception in the evolving governance of the empire.
