The History of Same-Sex Marriage

In the past, same-sex marriage was very common wherever a man might decide that he wanted to do some version of women's labor. Homosexuality wasn't a word that was invented until the late 19th century. In African cow herding societies, a woman who became wealthy and had a lot of power could accumulate a bunch of cows. And often that woman would go on to have children by various anonymous lovers but the children would belong to the female husband.
