The church baptizes the water, lays on hands, feeds with the Eucharist, and exhorts to martyrdom. The idea that monasticism is the kind of like proxy martyrdom of the next time period after persecuting diocletions. Because you're just looking to die to the world. And you know what, martyrdom is the easy way out because you literally just die.
