I was looking through Deutsch's chapter on optimism and beginning of infinity. He uses a number of times he used the word expectation, which seems to be adding something to the idea of optimism. So I feel like he actually is implying something about an attitude towards the world that goes beyond those things. There's a sort of load-bearing attitude in our expectation about the problems we're actually tackling.
