The data processing fees is the fixed fee that Visa gets for the settlement and transfer of funds behind every transaction. This used to be very costly every time due to the shipping costs required for every single bill. But today, it's all upfront costs and investments in equipment and technology. The last big driver of revenue is cross-border fees. They take a percentage of each transaction on cross-border purchases. However, when the merchant bank and the cardholder bank are in different countries, Visa ramps up its take rate significantly.
