The Negative Attributes of God

This analysis of theological discourse may seem to us rather disappointing. It seems to suggest that the language of Scripture is empty, that it tells us nothing about God. Maimonides anticipates this objection and tries to respond to it. The attributes that refer to God's actions that he is providential are not empty because they tell us something true about creation. What about the negative attributes, for instance that God is strong or knowing in the sense of not ignorant? Even negations can be informative, giving the example of a ship.
