You Never Have to Pay Me Back

When people do things for another person, they form like an unspoken social contract in their heads. Do something for this person, then going to pay me back ame way. When i'm generous, is it truly something that's given with no expectation? Or is there a hidden expectation in my mind that when they don't pay me back,  i here's 500 bucks.
