How Many Pieces of Content Should You Produce Per Month?

The web is super saturated with content right now. Almost every e commerce site has a blog. The only way you can stand out and get your content to rank, attract back links and get shares is to have something that's better than everyone else. My suggestion is just look at your competition and see how many words of content do they have on their sides? And i want to look at this across all three to five competing pieces of content so i will have the most thorough list of sub sections and headings once i crate my conscience.
