The Demilitarized Zone

Greg Bear: It's my cosmic Versailles treaty that I talked about in the Secret Space Conference of 2015 all over again. The Allies are attempting to push the jumping off point for any future German mobilization back several tens and a couple of cases hundreds of miles. You know, by demilitarizing the Rhineland area of Germany they're trying to give them time to react.
