The Great Mortality by John Kelly
John Kelly's The Great Mortality has an amazing rundown of what was probably going down behind the walls in Kaffa during the plague siege. To give homage to the Master of History podcasts, I'd like to read an excerpt from The Great Mortalities in the style of Dan Carlin. As the death toll mounted, the streets would have filled with feral animals feeding on human remains and drunken soldiers looting and raping,. old women dragging corpses through rubble and burning buildings spewing jets of flame into the Crimean sky.
