The History of the Polt Tab
The advent of the Polt tab was caused from an early 1977, like situation that was very similar to this case. A high school student picked up an unopened bottle of Coca Cola at a payphone in Minato, central Tokyo. So it contained cyanide and after drinking it, the next day the student passed away. This was the case that really pushed the bottling industry to say, okay, we need a way to prove these things have or have not been tampered with.
