Elizabeth Smart's Hope in the Face of Abuse

Matt Welch: Elizabeth Smart, who's like a woman whose story I'm constantly in conversation with because she's remarkable. She was abducted from her bed and kidnapped and tortured for nine months. One of the things she talks about is that admits the despair of that situation. But there was this other thing happening out in the world, which is that people were looking for her so committedly that she got found on the streets of Utah. That's the kind of hope that I worry people have, that I worry that people in horrible situations are hoping that the world is going to come and save them in some way.
