Having a Mission Sets the Couple Up for Success
Couples need to declare their mission before they can have a conversation. When the brain is yellow, it's getting threatened in a fight-or-flight response. It loses its ability to be empathetic and to see different perspectives. So try to have that listening partner pick the mission and say, wait a second, I don't have to make it about me for the next couple of minutes. That gives the withdrawer a sense of freedom and space.
