Thucydides was a Thracian, or someone descended from Thracians. Plato's project is always sort of driven by the desire to alter the stories we tell in order to fit the moral rule. In this attempt to understand events and people in those realistic terms that a finding aspect forThucydides, as with Nietzsche, is power. This is the principle that's driving the conflict between Athens and Sparta. And the Peloponnesian War in which Sparta ultimately defeats Athens.
